Jackfruit has been one of may top favorite plant based, go to items for tacos, " pulled pork" sandwiches, and roast beef.
Jackfruit,is the largest fruit in the world as it can grow to be 80 pounds! It's also known as an miracle fruit.
Jackfruit is harvested in Africa, Brazil, India and Asia. This yummy fruit is packed with numerous heath benefits and did I mention that it tastes amazing.
Why, I love Jackfruit!
I'll be completely honest when I first tried Jackfruit back in early 2019, I wasn't sold on the idea that this interesting looking fruit could be used as a meat substitute. I was so wrong! Since that day, I have been making Jackfruit sliders one a month.
Here is what you need to know about Jackfruit.
Jackfruit is packed with potassium, protein, vitamin A &C and calcium.
When prepared correctly the texture is similar to beef, pork or chicken.
My favorite way to prepare Jackfruit is BBQ Sliders!
To prep your Jackfruit this recipe, I recommend that you lay out newspaper on your counter top before cutting. This fruit can be very messy. I always wear gloves when working with Jackfruit as it is super sticky. To help with cutting, smooth over a coat of olive oil on your knife and gloves. I recommend cutting the fruit in four sections, to allow you easier access to the yellow fruit pods and seeds from the core.
Separate the seeds from the pod that it is inside. Don't toss out the seeds, we can eat them as well!
Boil the seeds for 30 minutes and enjoy.
Once the seeds are separated from the pods, rinse the pods in warm water. I prefer to chop the pods in half before using it in my recipes.
If I'm preparing BBQ Sliders, I place the fruit on a foil lined grilling safe dish. Spray the foil with non-stick spray to avoid the fruit sticking to the foil. Add olive oil, seasoning, spices, peppers and onions. Place the fruit on the grill for 15 minutes, stir often. Add BBQ sauce and cook for another 10 minutes. Then enjoy!
Have you tried Jackfruit before? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
Peace
