How Walking 10,000 steps a Day Improved My Health!
We all know the benefits of walking everyday! We've heard it a million times! But It's True..
In March, I challenged myself to walk 10k steps a day, at least 5 days a week.
10k steps is the same as 5 miles a day.
Currently, I'm up to 15k-20k steps per day!
Here's what I learned!
Working out doesn't have to hurt...well maybe just a little!
We need to feel the burn... right? Consider this, working out doesn't have to be strenuous to be effective!
Yeah, I said it! Walking is one of the most effective forms of exercise, yet it is the most underrated.
Demanding doesn't mean better!
By walking 10k steps a day, 5 days a week... I feel stronger, more toned, and my endurance has improved.
Now I'm not saying to ditch the gym, but if you aren't seeing results or health benefits from your current workouts... It's time to try something new.
My first week of walking 10k steps a day, let me sore!! But I felt AMAZING!
AND... your girl saw certain areas shrinking! This motivated me to keep going!
Goddess... you aren't Accountable
One of the biggest lessoned that I learned, is that I don't always finish what I start!
Accountability for active has always been an issue for me. I would start a workout plan go "hard" for maybe 8 weeks then slack off. I would blame my lack of discipline on this or that.. but at the end of the day.. I wasn't accountable for what started.
This time, I enlisted the help of my husband. He brought me an FITBIT! At first, I was against it because... who wears a FITBIT when they have an Apple Watch??? That was so 2012 in my mind. I was so wrong!
By wearing the FITBIT I was able to track my steps and join challenges which pushed me to achieve my daily goal. I also started walking with my husband in the mornings, walking with friends and family in the evenings and mid-day. Another option I opted for was Walk At home videos!
These videos are a great way to get steps in!
My favorite walking buddy!
Walking Allowed me time to clear my mind!
I used my time walking to think, meditate (yes meditate) and visualize.
Often my walks allowed me time to connect with myself. I listened to my favorite affirmations, music and sometimes nothing at all. I was fully present during my walks.
Walking also gave me an extra mood boost. Walking releases endorphins which are feel good hormones.
I was even happier, joyful, and calm.
Studies found that a 10-minute walk may be just as good as a 45-minute workout when it comes to relieving the symptoms of anxiety.
